Inis
Located just off the High Street in the town’s Northgate, the highly popular Inis women’s fashion store stocks many well-known clothing labels, such as Avoca, French Connection, Masai, Noa Noa, Sandwich and White Stuff, just to name a few.
With shops in Peebles, Galashiels and Hawick, the Inis concept was born among the rolling hills and small towns of the Borders. It is this real sense of community which is at the heart of the Inis shops where customers have become friends, bringing an inspiring mix of fashion products from inspired international brands direct to the Borders. Inis has built up relationships with fashion brands which reflect its own ethos of good quality, and great styling, and draws on inspiration from natural surroundings.
Inis also stock footwear brands such as Ugg, Fly, and Hudson boots and top jewellery brands such as Pilgrim and Hot Diamonds. There's something for everyone.
Moy Mackay Gallery
Also situated in the Northgate of Peebles, the Moy Mackay gets her inspiration from the beautiful Tweed Valley, using merino fleece fibres in the same way that a painter uses brushstrokes.
A graduate from the renowned Glasgow School of Art, Moy Mackay continues to work and live in her native land. From her home in the Borders, she fuels her passion for colour and texture with an unceasing inspiration drawn from her surroundings in the beautiful Tweed Valley, using merino fleece fibres. The result is a ‘felt painting’ of extraordinary warmth and texture.
From the Moy Mackay Gallery in Peebles, she continues to exhibit not only her own work, but that of other artists from the Borders and further afield. The gallery is committed to exhibiting Scotland’s contemporary artists recognized for their artwork, including paintings, ceramics, sculpture, glass, wood, jewellery, cards, mugs and books. The perfect place to find that special gift or piece for your own home.
WTS Forsyth and Sons
A real Peebles institution, ‘Forsyth’s’ as they are fondly known, is a family run butcher which has been serving Peebles since 1938.
Provenance is key for this quality butcher. Forsyth’s source all their beef exclusively from quality beef herds in the Borders of Scotland. Louise Forsyth selects and buys the best prime fat stock cattle on a weekly basis from St Boswells Auction Market. This means that the team can vouch for the quality and high animal welfare that their customers expect. Their lamb comes from the Manor Valley and other Scottish Borders farms, with pork from Hawick and other Scottish farms and game which is all locally supplied.
Specialties also include home cured bacon, haggis, white puddings, black puddings and of course their famous pies!
Forsyth’s Bakery, which is right next door to the butchers, specialises in delicious handmade bread, rolls, cakes, shortbread, gingerbread and Selkirk Bannocks.
Always busy, you will see why this quality butcher and baker is so popular with locals and visitors alike.
Scott Brothers
Ironmongers since 1891, the fourth and fifth generations of Scott Brothers are proud to still be supplying Peebles today.
This Aladdin’s cave of a shop offers “tools, appliances, power tools, key cutting, locks, kitchen ware, hardware, decorating, fixings, paint mixing, cleaning products, adhesives, plants, garden tools, garden products, seeds, electrical hardware, pest control, gas, paraffin, kindling, fire lighters” and much, much more besides!
A mainstay on Peebles High Street, you simply won’t miss Scott Brothers and the huge range of wares which are on display. Whilst you may not feel the need to stock up on hardware or supplies whilst you are on your break, we are delighted to shine a light on this, the most traditional of shops. Better than any big DIY store in our opinion.
